Why do parents distance themselves from storytelling?

Why do parents distance themselves from storytelling?

1- Busy life: Today, most parents are busy with a hectic life and as soon as they get home, they want to rest a bit or watch TV. Therefore, they do not have enough energy for children and can not devote enough time to them. Over time, this gap widens and destroys the intimate relationship between parents and children. You need to take responsibility for spending time with your children despite being too busy. Bedtime storytelling is one of those opportunities.

2- Nuclear family: Nuclear family is a family that consists of husband and wife and children and is common in most urban communities and industrialized countries. In the past, grandparents played an important role in raising children. Even when parents were alive, grandparents were a valuable treasure trove of storytelling. However, with the rapid change of socio-cultural scenarios, most families (especially urban families) have become nuclear. Therefore, children have lost the opportunity to listen to the stories of their grandparents.

3- High dependence of children on phones and tablets: Today, children become addicted to mobile phones very early in their lives. This problem is exacerbated by parents' lack of interest in storytelling. Of course, many people believe that this dependence is one of the consequences of the loss of parents' storytelling skills.

4- Forgetting stories: You can start storytelling with stories that you listened to as a child or must have read as a child.

However, children need variety, and if you have only a few repetitive stories, they get bored quickly. Apart from this, many of the stories and tales we have heard so far have been forgotten and forgotten. But there are ideas to solve this problem:

You can learn new stories from new storybooks or storytelling websites. In addition, you can apply your storytelling ideas. Be creative and make up stories with your child's favorite characters. Do not worry about the plot and the subject of the story. Just focus on the narrative and say interesting things. The advantage of storytelling is that it has no boundaries. Fish can fly, horses can go to the sun and carpets can fly!

If storytelling is difficult for you, it's still okay. You can tell something about the events of your childhood. For example, how you went fishing with your father or how you climbed a tree to pick apples, and that climbing a tree is not a good thing at all.

You can also remind your child of his experiences. Can you tell us about the last time you went to the zoo together and how much you enjoyed seeing giraffes and other animals?

Lack of storytelling skills: Many parents may know a lot of stories but are unsure of their storytelling skills. If you are one of these people, do not let fear get in the way. Fortunately, the children are very kind and you can make progress too! So you can tell stories to your children and become a professional storyteller in no time!
